FAQ: PowerPac

1What version is right for me? Top

It is difficult to answer this question without the detailed information of the type of work and installations you do. The statements below will give you a very brief summary of the general use of each version.

PowerPac LT is aimed at users that primarily do residential work.  It will perform basic caclulations for maximum demand, cable size and voltage drop for single cable runs.

PowerPac STD is still aimed at users that primarily do residential work however does allow users to perform calculations for small projects involving a mazimum of 3 switchboards (ie main switchboard and 2 sub boards) to a maximum fault level of 6kA.  This is useful for situations where a large shed or workshop may exist having it's own distribution board.

PowerPac PRO accounts for over 95% of all sales and caters for users that perform calculations for large domestic, industrial and commercial installations.  It allows the user to add as many switchboards as required and will calculate voltage drop and fault levels throughout the project.  It also caters for additional diversity for maximum demand.

Please see our detailed table of fetures on the PowerPac product page for more information.

2How should I install PowerPac on a network? Top

Server Installation

Make sure you are logged in with Administrator rights before running the initial installation. Administrator rights are required in order to set up the license control service under Windows NT and Windows 2000. Answer Yes when asked if you wish to install the license server. This will install a program that will monitor all license requests from the remote computers.

When setting security and sharing permissions for access to the PowerPac folder, users require at least Change (Read, Write, Execute and Delete) permissions. This is due to the software creating temporary license request files in the installed folder.

Workstation Installation

To setup a workstation ro tun PowerPac from a network server, simply navigate to the server folder where PowerPac has been installed and run the NETSETUP.EXE file.  This will perform all necessary steps to acces PowerPac from a network workstation.
