FAQ: Espro

1How should I install Espro on a network? Top

Server Installation

Make sure you are logged in with Administrator rights before running the initial installation. Administrator rights are required in order to set up the license control service under on the PC that is acting as the server for the Espro software.

When setting security and sharing permissions for access to the Espro directory, users require at least Change (Read, Write, Execute and Delete) permissions. This is due to the software creating temporary license request files in the installed folder.

Workstation Installation

Installing to the workstations is simply a matter of first mapping a drive letter to connect to the server PC and then running the workstation installation file. A SETUP.EXE file should be located in the installation directory on the server. Running this file will setup required shortcuts and local preferences files. When asked for a directory, this should be a LOCAL directory to the workstation PC and NOT the installation directory on the server. This directory wil be used to store individual user preferences.

2How do I install an Espro upgrade? Top

Installing an Espro upgrade is simply a matter of running the installation file and selecting the required folder. This folder should be where the original Espro installation was made to.

When upgrading Espro on a network, you only need to install the upgrade to the server directory, not to the individual workstations. Unlike a new installation, an upgrade can be installed from a remote computer and not just from the server.

3How do I sort my data on screen? Top

Some windows are able to sort the displayed data in alphanumerical order by clicking on the column header. Before using this feature for the first time, the files need to be reindexed. To reindex the required files, select Tools | File Utilities and click on the Select All to select all the data files. Then click on "Go" to reindex the files. When finished, close this window and you should now be able to sort your data.

4When should I use reindex and compress? Top

Reindex and compress should not be used to correct errors, only to compress data files when a large number of items have been deleted. It is unnecessary to compress the files on a regular basis, however if a large number of items have been deleted then the speed of data access can possibly be increased by compressing the data files.

5When should I use check and repair? Top

You should only use the Check and Repair utility when instructed to by Spearhead Software Technical Support. Most data errors can be fixed by reindexing the relevant data files. Do this by selecting the Reindex option from within the File Utilities window. If you are going to use the Check and Repair option we strongly recommend making a backup of your Espro data before proceeding.
